I honestly thought that both of these fighters had more to offer. they seemed to lose heart after setbacks. Especially Dale, as he was quite young when he quite. James Hare was obviously past his best but I thought Hobson edged the first fight V Macca and was unlucky in rematch with that rabbit punch that took him out. Dale could have gone on to fight for the title again and then who knows what. All three of these fighters were trained by Peter Cullen from their amateur days, and he has now retired so I wonder if that had something to do with it? Or did he retire because of them packing it in?
Also, I would like to know what people think of Chris Aston as a trainer and manager. At one point he seemed to be on the verge of big things but now he has no bigtime fighters and seems to throw what he does have in to the deep end. Most of his best fighters were trained by Pete in the am's. Is it possible that their partnership was bilateral like Brain Clough and Peter Taylor? Or was it all Peter Cullen and Chris Aston just making noise. Obviously not the other way round as Chris has been quiet since. Maybe he needs another number 2 in the corners like Peter? I'd like to know what you limey's think
