  • A Defence Of Audley Harrison

It really annoys me when people slate Big Audley Harrison, I remember watching when he won his Gold Medal, It was a moment to remember, It would be fair to say that since then things haven't gone so well.
I think Audley has had some bad luck though, The public turned on him early which I think took away a lot of confidence, He finally turned things around destroying Danny Williams, then got knocked out by a wayward Sprott Hayemaker, that would have felled a horse. Had that lucky punch not have landed, Audley would have won big again, and who knows where he would have gone from there.
There was also a serious car crash that Audley was involved in, then his brother died, then David Haye took advantage of him in sparring. He wound up losing to Martin Rogan (I actually thought he had won) and people jeered "You lost to a taxi driver". When said taxi driver Ko'd the beloved Matt Skelton no-one said sorry auld, maybe he was better than we thought.

As I said it is easy to sneer at Audley and make fun of him, but he has had a lot of bad luck and I think he is still a good fighter, he just has a lack of confidence , and for the reasons I have outlined I think he is somewhat justified

I like Audley Harrison. I genuinely believe he has the tools to be a good heavyweight (especially in the current scene.)

Unfortunately he does seem a little bit like 'a rabbit in headlights' here and there and a bit afraid to get tagged.

I agree with what you said about the wild Sprott KO. He was looking good upto that point after a great (it really was) performance against Danny Williams.

I'd love to see a certain Mr.Haye win a Heayweight world title and defend against an Audley Harrison who actually turned up and fought to the best of his ability.

Unfortunately, and I think everyone knows, this just wont ever happen.

Yeah, During the Harrison-Rogaan fight, the sight that concerned me was how tired Audley seemed between rounds, If he is to achieve anything worthwhile at Pro it has to be soon as his natural abilities are only going to degrade

Even Martn Rogan knew that he almost got his ass handed to him.. As he said afterwards that Audley can be realllllllllllly good if he trained to his fullest.

I hope Audley is reading this, because he still has me as his number 1 fan. Till the end!

I hope Frank Warren hasnt dropped him. I think Audley needs to fight with speed and punches with bunches, and just move out the way or turn his man off each time. He might have been good with the inside work but its just too dangerous.

All Audley needs is a few minor tactical changes and a confidence boost!
