America has the biggest media industry with a reach that's world wide. Fight in Vegas and Atlantic City and you'll soon be recognised by HBO and Showtime. Once on those you'll be seen all over the globe. HBO's reach is HUGE: People watch HBO fight cards in Japan and throughout Asia; they're seen in Europe and Africa and Latin America. European media simply doesn't have that kind of reach. So yesm if you want true world wide recognition you need to come to America and get on HBO or Showtime. It's as simple as that.

if you want fame and wealth of the highest degree you should make sure you fight in the US, and more widely than that, wherever you're from. Both Tyson and Ali fought around the globe and are the biggest names ever in boxing.

But as for getting recognition for your ability, then it doesn't matter where you fight. if you beat the best opposition you'll get recognition in the history books, you don't need to come to the mecca of boxing.

No but it's harder otherwise. So long as top fighters are in America, and HBO and the Vegas casinos are providing the financial backing, you have to come here.

I think the real world champs should fight in America, England, and Germany.

Wlad is a good example, varying between Germany and America. I hope he goes to London to blow out one of your domestic HWs at some point (if one can actually string a few decent wins together), b/c it could be a popular event there.

Hopkins would fight in Wales and that would be lovely, but there is only one real world champ in Wales, so it's not like that's a model for others to follow.

I'd like to see the top American middleweight one day go to Germany to fight Abraham

And hardly anyone outside of hardcore boxing fans knows who Calazghe is. If he had fought in America the guy would be a superstar by now. He'd be a buttload richer and he'd be headlining PPV cards. Instead he's kanguishing in obscurity because he won't fight outside the UK.

SMW is a tough division though, the Euros have dominated it for a while. Who should he have come to fight? Everyone came to him.

And I don't think he was ever real high on Roy's list to be honest

He should have gone to Vegas and Atlantic City and let the Euros come to him there. Let's face it: That's where the money and exposure is. With the exception of Heavyweights fans don't really care what weight division someone fights in as long as they're watching a top notch fighter in good fights.

But if you fight the top gys in your division, I don't feel it matters where the fight is. He would have made more money? Why do you or I care about that?

The dumbest thing people on here ever worry about is how much money a guy is making. Why gove a **** if the fight is on tv where you can see it?

I like to see good fighters rewarded financially and with recognition. I'll put it plainly: I'm a Calzaghe fan and I think he should have been a star years ago.
I also believe in promoting the sport and I think the best fighters should get world wide recognition and especially recognition in the US, a country that is critical for the success of boxing. Boxing has been declining in popularity for years which I find alarming and I'd like to see that trend reversed.
