Marciano may have been boxing's all time top sportsman. Always gracious in victory, didn't he commit only one official foul in his career?

Pfft. Marciano was one of the dirtiest heavyweight champions and that says something.

Gracious in victory? Is that what it takes to be a great sportsman?

Came to think about Jersey Joe commenting Rocky as "the dirtiest fighter I ever met in 24 years of fighting”. I don’t questioning his opinion, but what I really admire about some of today’s fighters are the ability to be gracious in defeat.
It turns a loss in the ring, into victory for the boxer as a person.

As dirty as the guy who spent his career dodging Packey McFarland?

You never saw the Rock stand over an opponent and belittle him. Hell, he helped his victims up. What a sportsman? What a fine gentleman he was on his own show. "Watch out for that lefhook. It hurts! I know from experience." Et al. He had definite charm under the armor.
