    Tommy Burns interview 02/09

    Interesting article.

If you read the reports prior to his bout with Johnson, Burns stated his condition was his best ever. Training harder than ever before.

Those that witness his training wrote that Burns was in great condition.

After the bout Burns offered no excuses.

Here he intimates that he over trained which led to his lower than typical weight. This led to him being listless during the bout.

I’ve heard of those who claimed Burns was very ill going into this bout but have read nothing of it whatsoever. The only negative comment was by Jack London, the writer, who watched the bout live. He stated Burns looked pale as if he had not slept the night prior.

One thing that is clear is that the bout was a one sided affair with Johnson allowing Burns to hit him in the body. Burns was cut and badly swollen after the fight. Johnson relatively unmarked. The bout was stopped because of it being so one sided. Johnson’s defense impenetrable.

It was not hard for us to find Tommy Burns on board the R.M.S. Morea this morning. He has' developed some healthy rising habits since his advent ...

I wonder what limit Burns could have comfortably made in his heavyweight days. Could he make Super middle in today's clime?

By Cliff Rold - As Friday rolls into Saturday in the US, fans up late, or early depending how one views it, won’t have to look far to find an intriguing clash in the squared circle. YouTube (Saturday, 3:45 AM EST) will deliver a clash between two or the more globally recognizable names in Thai boxing over the last decade in a fight

After reading the article I can see he might very well have made junior middle if he tried hard! He is not even a light heavyweight.

I doubt Burns could conclusively whip Duran!
