    The mediocre also wear crowns

The Champion is top mittman in his division-the best-he's gotta be able to box and punch. It is therefore ironic that too often mediocre or untalented scrappers succeed in acquiring boxing titles, while their skilled contemporaries are forced to plod along and punch out a meager living, while their less capable brethren are sitting on the top rung of the ladder.

The promoters and manager pull the strings by carefully selecting from a collection of inept opponents, professional losers, thereby ascending the fistic throne. Followed by (protecting) matching their chosen built up champ, with mugs he can beat as directed. Sure, there are some occasions where a bum taking a beating, blindly swinging wild lands a blow on the champs jaw, knocking him cold. The referee counts the champ out and the plodder miraculously becomes champion.

Such is the (set-up) case of Lew Jenkins, knocking out Lou Ambers for the lightweight title. The NY boxing monopoly, by-pass putting in the #1 lightweight contender to fight Amber's, as they had a no lose proposition, owning both of their fighters.

Who else would you pick was such a champ?
