It's going to be one of the bigger guys, there's no question that the more mass is behind the punch the more force is in the impact.

Lennox and Wlad knew how to put all of their massive weight into their best shots perfectly, they delivered some of the hardest KO's ever. One of them could be the answer.

Deontay Wilder was lighter than them but slightly longer in height and limb length, he perfected his slingshot overhand right. He really swung the mass from his chicken legs, through his torso and traveled it with his extremely long arms through his fist in one solid motion. He's not the hardest puncher ever per se(he can't deliver that power in every type of punch and not from all angles) but in terms of one solid hard punch it's probably the hardest.

Genetically it's Foreman and Shavers since they were born to be punchers but I don't know, compared to Lewis/Wlad there's a big difference in mass(and force), and all of them knew how to punch correctly.

If it is possible to measure a punch in Newtons I wouldn't be surprised if it is Tua and his left hook.

Yeah I agree with this. I make a distinction between hardest and greatest.

I think on balance I give it to Wlad. He had more snap and speed than Lewis. His power was just lights out game over when he landed right, Lewis generally took more shots to put guys away, but then he had tougher competition so guess I should factor that.

Plus there is that thread that does the rounds from a 90s sparring partner (sparred Lewis, Wlad, Tua, Tyson, Holy, old Foreman etc) and he says pretty clearly Wlad was the hardest puncher he fought.

It’s a very tough question to logically answer. I have watched, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Lyle and Shavers train specifically to this point hit a heavy bag. It’s no contest as Foreman manhandled a huge bag like it was nothing with punches you heard all over the gym. Thunderous. I went back to the training area that evening (resort hotel) and tried hitting that same bag. Could not budge it. Must have been 300 pounds.

Being bigger does not mean a fighter hit harder. Carnera was a huge fighter but not known for punching power.

Hitting hard is a function of Technique, speed, timing and size.
