Joe Roman ? Chuck Wepner ? Jean Pierre Coopman ? Anyone else ?
For me it was Coopman. I was 10 years old when he challenged Ali in 1976.I remember watching the ABC pre fight coverage kind of buying into the hype of the Lion of Flanders and actually thinking he may have a chance with the past his best days Ali. Hey, I was just a young kid. I didn't know any better. What a pitiful performance by Coopman as I don't even think he landed more than maybe a few meaningless punches for as long as the fight lasted against a bored and overweight Ali.Back in those days with the lack of available information, you could fool the public easier and tune in to a farce fight like that. Coopman was just awful.
