Based on power alone is Wilder the hardest hitter in boxing history?

Not factoring in skills or defensive prowess etc. just talking pure power, is there an argument that can be made that he is the hardest one shot hitter in history?

Who would have an argument over him?

I am shocked this question is being asked.

    Without reservation, yes.

I dunno how he does against offensively gifted fast starters, though.

Foreman, young Lewis (if his balls don't shrink), the Ukrainians all would probably put him away before he could get to them.

But anyone not named Fury gets toasted trying to take him the distance.

Only reason Fury survived was because Wilder was too anxious to land the big shots. Both shots that put him down weren't even that flush. He missed badly in that fight until something landed.

So Tyson Fury has one of the best punch resistances in history? He was knocked down by USS Cunningham a non puncher at cruiser-weight. Deontay Wilder hits hard without a shadow of a doubt, but I believe his punching power is being massively overrated.

Right now in the heavyweight division there are no real tough durable heavyweights, but that is what makes it exciting. And of course Wilder is currently right now the 'Hardest hitting heavyweight of this era'

Going into a fight against Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield or ether Kiltschko 'With the game plan of just hoping to land one punch? Is not very wise'. Thus-far Wilder has been dropping rounds to non-punchers and able to survive their onslaught, this may dramatically change if he steps inside the ring with another big heavyweight who can box/punch.

Tyson Fury would probably struggle to knock out most of the top cruiser-weights today. If Tyson Fury can take rounds off Wilder, Lennox Lewis would be taking rounds off him 'But in the process giving him a brutal beat down'.

Wouldn't be surprised at all, and I would have no issue with anyone proclaiming him to be #1. It's scary the amount of force he creates and the visible impact it causes, and the amount of times he put so many opponents in very dire straits in the ring. He also has the KO% record going for him too. Yeah he's probably the hardest one-shot puncher ever.

Did you type any of that with the expectation of anyone reading it?

You can't show me a harder puncher than Wilder.

You can't show me a better Heavyweight than Fury.

But I do think it would be funny to watch you try.

            THAT I will read.

I wish more people would appreciate what he does.

I also think he TAKES punches better than most big punchers have.

He's more of a Lew Tendler than a Julian Jackson.

Is this a real thread? Wilders level of opposition is pretty poor, and the rematch last night was kind of what was expected. If Ruiz wins his fight I'd like to see him and wilder go at it. Ruiz has shown he can take a punch. I think fury is on his way down and cashing his chips, but he clearly won the fight against Wilder.

But I'll agree with other posters, if the elite boxers of the 90s like bowe, Lewis or holyfield were around wilder wouldn't have a chance.

I need to see more of him against better opposition before I anoint him as the hardest hitting heavyweight ever.

He certainly has started to creep into that conversation, though.
