Ali was playing, Joe was not. Ali goes for the grab and just tries to hold onto him. It was the security and others that stopped Joe from really hurting Ali. It was deff real on Joe's part. Ali brother almost got his azz kicked too. Joe looks right at him and says "you want some too" and smartly Rahman waits for help before getting into it.

Yea Joe was as serious as can be. Ali I think was a bit nervous with Joe standing over him, and he knew enough about Joe to know he was not kidding. Also as great as Ali was he would not want to fight Joe in a street fight. Its a bit funny how Ali called Joe a "white mans champ" and other stuff when it was Ali who lived somewhat middle class(at least for an African American). Joe was born in the deep south and was VERY poor and lived the inner city life in Philly in his teens. Yea Joe looked right at Ali's bro and said"what you want" and "do you want some of this". Good thing Ali grabbed him like he did because we may not have seen fight otherwise. I believe this was right before Ali v Frazier 2.

I read that Cosell told Ali he'd be between the 2, but didn't when time came.
