Talk about going out on your shield...

Rubén Olivares vs Kazuyoshi Kanazawa II Oct. 25, 1971
In the 14th round of a fight that is very close on the cards, undisputed bantam champ Ruben Olivares has finally begun to bring about the end to a brutal fight in Japan against the challenger Kazuyoshi Kanazawa, (Olivares had knocked him out in the 2nd round of their first fight 2 yrs previous) who appears to have given the fight of his life this night. After going to the canvas for the 2nd of an eventual three trips, all occurring in the 14th round, you believe that no way in hell is this dude getting up... he not only does, but he does one of the cooler things I think I've seen in this situation. Rising like a zombie, he shambles towards Olivares and screams what I hope is "BANZAI!!!" I cannot believe this fight, and this specific moment aren't more well known. First link is to the moment itself from a highlight channel narrated in Spanish. Second link is to the whole fight, which appears to only exist with Japanese commentary...
In the time since I wrote this post I've found much better quality clips of Highlights and of the fight itself. The highlights are narrated in Japanese, not Spanish. The fight is the same broadcast, just better quality, although it's in 2 parts. I cannot figure t how to directly download the 2 parts from the hosting site. First time Ive ever really run into the issue

Mexican vs Japanese fighters have some gnarly wars. This is a prime example. Such a good clash of styles.

And damn what a warrior. He has a wild uppercut too haha.

Olivares was an amazing fighter. By the time he won the unified bantam title over Lionel Rose he was 52-0 with 50 kos. Could imagine the money and attention he would get if he was fighting today.

Right on. Two separate 20+ ko victory streaks! Only he and Carlos Zarate have done so i have learned.
