Thanks a lot mate. Your efforts are really appreciated!
I suggest you take a look at this:

The quality is the best I can find from that time period and there’s even close ups from about 4.20 in the film.
The uploader also has the best footage of the legendary Wolgast-Nelson fight that I’ve ever seen. The volume of punches in that fight even in the late rounds (30 onwards) is truly mind boggling. -
- -Ad Wolgast right?
Been a while since I saw that fight, what , maybe 80-90% lost to time, but what remained was astounding.
Them boys could fight and as I recall Ad was at or near the 40 rd mark for the stoppage, a very forgotten fighter today.Comment

What's your estimationg of fighters from this era based on your fine work? Are they really that primitive. Clearly it's different than modern Boxing. It looks more like MMA, and the punching isn't as polished. But are you dissapointed with the skills on display?
I really think it's not the quality of the fighters which viewers are disappointed by, but the quality of the technology of the day. Usually. Some fighters look like rubbish, and that wouldn't change even if they were filmed in modern HD.Last edited by Rusty Tromboni; 07-14-2019, 10:32 AM.Comment

Owen Moran and Jimmy Britt were too very fine fighters of the Pre-McFarland Era who go unjustly unsung. Great fighters, if not perfectly consistent.

Your right its often the film. Because to give the illusion of motion needs a certain amount of Frames Per Second is needed. Silent films are around 16 frames per second. Or there abouts. The inconsistency of silent film frame rates have driven film historians and preservationists nuts,
Early 20th century cameras and projectors were hand cranked and cinematographers would undercrank or overcrank the camera for effect, But 16 frames per second is adequate for normal movement but inadequate for a boxing match where you want to slow some scenes down Also the film used deteriorated in a few decades
Some fighters from that era would be successful today. Joe Gans and Abe Attell would be successes in any era. Battling Nelson would not. Even in his time. In some of Nelsons early matches. People would walk out in the early part of the match thinking "This Nelson is a lemon"
Be surprised hearing the next day that Nelson won by a knockout in the 17 0r the 20th round.
Nelsons ability to suffer knockdown after knockdown and still keep coming on is why he ever held any victorys over Britt for instance. Who was a far superior boxer. Many boxers have one punch in their arsenal they are know for.
Frazier had a left hook. Larry Holmes a left jab Britt in particular had one punch it was a marvel.. That won many matches for Britt
It was a low left hand swing it was half uppercut and half hook. According to Bat Nelson it was one of the best punches ever used in the ring...In this fight against Owen Moran
Nelson while only 29 is definitely is past his best years. Nelson is a little taller then many lightweights at the time.
Clearly is not giving Moran a chance to box he is constantly in Morans face. Nelson needs to be close to administer his "Half Scissors Hook" which he depends on to win most matches,
One fighter from Nelsons time though not on film . Was a KO puncher Aurelio Herrera. Feared by many in his day. Trained very little, Ate and drunk as he pleased. Supposedly even young Sam Langford avoided him.
Nelson said in his match with Herrera while coming out of a clinch. Herrera hit him with a right hand so hard that he turned a complete somersalt in the air landing on his head. Nelson said it felt like a sledgehammer hitting him
Packy Mcfarland would be great any era. Mike Gibbons toComment
