I would of responded earlier but I missed this thread. Lopez was a tough boxer, and one of more enjoyable fighters at the time. His fights against Quartey and Aaron Davis were an example of that. His fight with Page was previewed as a match between two terrific punchers but Page wisely moved and boxed. Good for him he did.
- -I covered Maestrito on a few of the old Telefutura broadcasts of GoldenBoy promos, but he was obviously running on fumes and burning lotsa fat.
Sorta celebrity tour with the locals bowing and scraping to his magnificence. Maybe he coulda been more in his pomp, but his record shows many extended vacations from boxing, probably enjoying the multitudes of beautiful amenities in Mexico.
He looked really good but even by the Quartey fight I think he was possibly unraveling. He let himself get outworked for long stretches in that fight and got a lucky draw despite having Ike down twice.
The Page fight was a big surprise and letdown. He just couldn’t deal with the movement and fought with little passion from what I remember.
