Visit NY: any interesting places concerning boxing history?

I will go to the States for work next week and visit NY (Manhattan). I probably have some time to see a little bit of the city and was wondering if there are any places I should visit with regard to boxing history? I just want to sniff the old school boxing atmosphere. I don't think I will bring my gloves since I have to give a presentation at an International Conference after my NY visit...can't risk a blue eye

    - - Ever hear of Madison Square Garden?

    Yeah!

    Or maybe Gleason's Gym.

Or soak up the vibes at old Yankee Stadium that may be torn down by now.

Or Harlem at the spot a drunken Battling Siki was killed.

International Boxing Hall of Fame is upstate NY, about five hours from Manhattan if you have a weekend free while you are there.

      Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn.

Stop in for a drink at Jimmy’s Corner on W 44th st., lots of boxing nostalgia on the walls.

You should go to the Crawford-Khan fight if you're in town for that. Outside of Gleasons and Jimmy's corner there's not a great deal that really shows a great deal of boxing history. Jimmy's is good. There's a lot of boxing photos on the wall, Jimmy is a good dude and the beers are cheap there though it's very narrow so when full it's a little too stuffed.

In MSG if you do a tour there is a statue of Joe Gans inside the arena but you can only see it on the tour not just from walking around the venue.

Can't go wrong with the Pizza but I think the most essential food (that's not gourmet or fancy restaurant) is ***ish deli, especially Katz.

                    - -Don't get better than one of them mamacita taco wagons where they whip up a fresh breakfast taco on the spot.

Made me want to marry em on the spot. Lifesavers!
