    Eder Jofre was probably the best at that time. Not as known in America as most his fights were in South America but in 1964 he was unbeaten and one of the longest reigning and most dominant champs. Not to mention a complete fighter with superb skill and power.

      March 4 1964 myself. Ali had only been champ for a month and I don’t think Griffith was ever held in that lofty of status. I’ll do some homework........

          Some dude called Shane Mosley who I have never heard of. He beat De La Hoya though so he must have been very good.

          He was a welterweight though, that raises another question- I wonder, How many times the #1 ranking was held by a boxer who wasn’t a welterweight ?
