Trouble for collins is that he was an unrecgnised titlist so who in the world today thinks any WBU titlist has the right to call out the WBC one? Trouble for Benn is he failed to win his eliminator that would have handed him the jones fight.

It was Eubank and Calzaghe who explicitly said they didnt want to get in the ring with jones. The reasons are obvious, they wanted to avoid loses , their unbeaten records at the time were important fulcrums to their careers.

Still credit to joe for proving he was world class in his last, 21st "world" title defence ten years after winning an unrecognised title. Some people just like the scenic route.
Imagine Amir Khan winning his first recognized title at age 34, he'd get laughed all the way home. I am not even going to imagine that 35 year old Khan then dumps the belt that he took ten years to win and retires without trying to defend it.
