I've recently watched his 3 fights with Chavez....first 2 were awesome fights. Never really knew what happened to Randall or how he is remembered in boxing history. Was his win over Chavez in the first fight a fluke against a coked out, self destructive Chavez (similar to what happens to many all time greats, they end up self destructing while at the top, like Tyson, etc)? Did he just have the blueprint laid out by Whitaker on how to beat Chavez or was Randall really that good? Or a combination of Chavez not training and Randall also being in the fight of his life, coming prepared, and having that Whitaker fight to learn from? And any opinions on Randall overall? I am interested in checking out his career and his best fights.
Thoughts on Frankie Randall?

Honestly a great question and one worth checking out. I've got no real information to help you, but going (3-13, 10 KO'd) over the last 6 years of his career didn't help much.
[He retires with the Oba Carr fight and he ends things 55-6-1, a three-time challenger and two-time world champion at 140lbs, with the feather of having been the man to beat an aging but undefeated Julio Cesar Chavez.
A respectable career run that should draw some note in his hometown, but it'd be a stretch to expect more than that]
Good luck with the search -
Randall was a coke head himself and had cleaned himself for the Chavez fight. That was no fluke, he just had his number. On the second fight he was doing even better until the cut happened and some home cooking. He would fight Chavez down the road but the drugs caught up to him once more.
In their first encounter they were fighting their asses off. Chavez looked the same he always did. Frankie had a plan, speed and power.Comment

I remember Randall from the early days looking good in the ESPN tournament . Soon after that he face Edwin Rosario. Rosario was too much at that stage for the young lion. Seen his early loss to slugger Primo Ramos as well. Randall was on tv a lot.
Randall was a fine boxer with good power. Unfortunately, as mentioned he battled with drugs. He definitely had Chavez's number and showed his class against Juan M. Coggi as well. After that I believe his past caught with him as it does with most boxers who don't live clean.Comment

He took it to Chavez, beat him up, and hurt him in a way I don't recall too many others ever doing.Comment
