  • Help in identifying these 1970's-80's boxers autographs

    Hi,

Recently came across and purchased these boxing gloves and am trying to identify the signatures.

I have 4 so far (and yes I need to identify if authentic or not)

    Muhammad Ali
    Alan Minter
    David 'Boy' Green
    Jim Watt

If authentic I am guessing that they were acquired at some kind of charity event (Must research)

I have 14 photos in total showing 18 signatures (One very faint which I believe the last name is Watt)

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Indy

SORRY UNABLE TO UPLOAD PHOTOS, TRIED BUT DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW.
If you know of another way to do this please let me know.

Members need 15 posts before they can post links and pictures.
It would help you get there if you post about the charity event and then how you came across the gloves, ie collector, former fighter etc.

      Thanks TBear,

I actually bid on the gloves at a provincial auction house.
Not sure who catalogued the gloves but they could not have had much understanding of boxing.

The description made reference to an autograph by Alan Minter then said "and contemporary boxers".
In their defence the gloves were in a wooden box with a slightly dirty perspex cover so maybe they did not see the other autographs properly and did not get them out.

Don't know if the gloves were signed at a charity event, that's just my guess.
The box they sit in is an empty wooden Bordeaux wine box (Excellent fit)

In two minds as to sell them or keep them (If authentic) but I have noticed that specialist sports auctions do not realise the same value as auction houses such as Sotherby's for Ali signed gloves.
The 4 autographs I have identified so far look identical to other autographs of the boxers found on Google. This makes me believe that the signatures of all 18 must be authentic (Will check & verify), as it would be a very clever/artistic forger who could forge all 18 boxers signatures on one set of gloves (and a lot of effort!)

Am I amble to give out my email address here so people can email me for photos. The other option is someone to give me their email address so I can post the photos to them for them to upload on my behalf.
