    Southpaw heavyweight champions

Been doing alot of reading lately and stumbled across that Michael Moorer was the first southpaw heavyweight champion in 1992. Is there a stylistic reason why southpaws are not more prominent in the heavyweight division? And was there many notable southpaws before Moorer?

The first lef handed fighter was only born in 1961. Genetics got a late start in the boxing game. This is not so surprising, at least for the U.S. Until the 1960's there was a shortage of molecules in the U.S. Now in case you haven't heard, molecules are required to build a southpaw. Around the middle of the century the U.S. started getting a big influx of molecules. This was from migrants, who are made of molecules, too, don't forget. After that we became a molecule-rich society fast.

Hope that clears up some of the mystery,

    Lef

In regards to the post above 'no comment'

In earlier days when fighters, and HW Champs in particular, were free to duck anyone they liked, they avoided fighting southpaws.

Managers and trainers would always 'turn-around' their left handed HW prospects knowing it was the only way to get a title shot.

Moore was unique in that he was a natural righty who was turned-around to fight southpaw. This made his jab more powerful.

If you take a right handed child and tell him to take a boxers stance he will position himself in the southpaw stance. We naturally want to put our dominate hand forward.

With Moore his managers saw fit to keep him that way.

Oh, I just thought of a reply for the above post. Babe Ruth was an immigrant?

Immigrants are not molecule-rich, migrants are. That is the difference.

There was also one heavyweight champion, and in this day and age we could have up to four - which creates more chances for a southpaw champ. It was inevitable.

Are not all immigrants just international migrants? (Why am I snapping at this bait?)
