a top guy will not shine vs a d level guy every now and then (for whatever reason).

may was not at his best vs a brawler like maidana but completely owned canelo.

didnt bruce finch score a kd over srl ?

a nobody named frankie randall gave jcc more than fits.

    tyson had his struggle moments.

    so many examples.
If it happens once fine, but it happened more often and this was against inferior opposition compared to the prime fighters of the 70s. Too often for Holmes to be dominant h2h like some seem to think.

Past prime Norton, Shavers almost finished him, young Witherspoon with 15 fights under his belt, Carl Williams etc. These fights could have gone either way at his best and even though he was on the slide against Michael Spinks, he should not have had such trouble with a blown up LHW.

Holmes was great but I feel he's a bit overrated.
