  • Quiz: Who are we? III

Each question is a different pair of fighters.

    1) We fought four times. One of us sued Universal Pictures and the other fought as a rebel in a war. Who are we?

    2) We were both world champions at the same weight and we fought each other once but it wasn't for the title. We both had more than 100 wins a piece in our careers and neither of us fought under our real names. One of us was a better boxer than a driver. The other was the first man to defeat the man who was considered the finest boxer of his day, and his post-fight career involved work as a stunt man. Who are we?

    3) We both fought in the same era and came from the ****** but never fought one another. One was a leading contender with a shaky chin who appeared in many world title fights without ever having fought in one. The other was a ****y world champion who was briefly one of the great sensations of his day. Who are we?

    4) We are from the same country and we fought each other for a television show when one of us was only 14 years old. We both come from fighting families, one of us has a world champion nephew and the other had world champion brothers. Who are we?

    5) We fought each other twice for a world title, one of which ended in a draw. One of us was a two weight world champion whose final fight ended in a knockout defeat to a fellow countryman. The other was a world champion who was narrowly defeated in Germany. Who are we?

    6) We both won Commonwealth Gold medals at the same games before becoming professional world champions at the same weight, at the same time, but we never fought. Who are we?

    7) We were both world champions and we fought twice for the ''title(s)', one fight being a no-decision fight that went the full 10 rounds and the other ending in a knockout. One of us had a notable gym and knew both John L Sullivan and Muhammad Ali. The other emigrated to the US at the age of 10, settling in Baltimore. Who are we?

    8) We fought twice in non-title fights. One of us brought down Mr Gray and the other carved out a solid acting career. Who are we?

    9) We only fought once in a non-title fight. One was an Olympic Gold medalist at featherweight who fought from lightweight to middleweight as a professional. His last professional fight was nearly 27 years after his first. The other had his first pro fight just over a month after the other and his last fight was just over 31 years after his first. Who are we?

    10) We fought once for a world title. One of us has writing credits on two movies, one starring Shirley Temple and the other starring Betty Grable. The other was a featherweight world champion called Christopher. Who are we?

    1) Joey Giardello - **** Tiger

    2) This has me stumped!
Edit: Ken Overlin - Vince Dundee?

    3) Ruby Goldstein and (I'm guessing) Abe Attell?

    4) Koki Kameda - Hiroki Ioka

    5) Byron Mitchell - Bruno Girard

    6) Barry McGuigan and Azuma Nelson

    7) Kid Williams - Johnny Coulon

    8) Not at all sure about this one! Clyde Gray is the only Gray I can think of... so I'm guessing Eddie Perkins - Armando Muniz

    9) Bep Van Klaveren - Kid Azteca

    10) Battling Battalino - Fidel LaBarba

        3) A ****y world champ who was a brief sensation around the same time as Goldstein? Well, if "brief" is the operative word, I'll have to go with Al Singer!

        8) Don Jordan - Art Aragon.

The 70's-00's are also a period in time in history.

Well spotted. Did Koki Kameda, Hiroki Ioka, Byron Mitchell, Bruno Girard, Barry McGuigan, and Azumah Nelson not all fight in that time period? Also the majority of the fighters in my answers didn't fight in the 1940s.
