  • Is Gerald Mcclellan the best MW of teh Roy Jones Jr Era?

He beat RJJ in the amateurs, and RJJ said he would never fight him again, never fight him in the pros.

RJJ went on to dominate everyone of his era bar Joe Calzagge and he probably would have dominated him too if he fought him earlier.

Yes AlexKid that is profound and true, he also whipped James Toney in sparring.

RJJ has a good shot maybe even he is the favorite but he lost and then ducked like Bowe and Lewis meaning he goes down as 2nd best.

You may find the following interview interesting if you've not seen it before:

I think we could possibly have seen them fight in the pro's, had that tragic night with Benn not occurred. Although it would always have been difficult for Roy and his handlers to have reached a compromise with Don King.

It's unfair to say that Roy ducked him like Bowe did with Lennox.

You had Nigel Benn, Gerald McClellan, Bernard Hopkins, Julian Jackson, Mike McCallum, Chris Eubank, Herol Graham, Sumbu Kalambay, Michael Nunn, Reggie Johnson, Michael Watson, James Toney, all of them active at the same time, so it's a tough pick.
It's between Toney, McCallum and Nunn for me.

Considering Toney beat both McCallum and Nunn, wouldn't you have to give him the nod?

The good thing about Toney was that he fear no one, but he went really close against McCallum and was losing against a Nunn that was already getting past his prime; Toney also was very inconsistent with his performances, so it's close for me.

McClellan fought a different level of comp than Jones and Toney. He was awesome but aside from Jackson hhis opponent list was limited.
