    Tony Zale

Anybody got any information on this guy?

He was the middleweight champion for several years in the 40's.

He used to train us at Portage park, real nice guy. He used to say speed brings power. He spent three weeks with me just working on the jab. He had me stop pronating to just work on that portion of the movement. Really a student of the sweet science. His big thing was to not telegraph the punches and for everything to be loose. The body/legs generated the power. I think some of his fights are on You tube. He gained recognition based on the movie, "Somebody up there likes me", which highlighted his fights with Rocky Graciano. Was from Gary, thus nicknamed Man of Steel.

You were very lucky to have the chance to train with him, Buckfever.

      I'm envious.

Yeah he worked for the Chicago Park District in his later years. I heard he trained all of the boxing coaches in the park district. My coach has a picture of Zale hung up in the gym and he said that Tony Zale was his coach.

Trying to find out some more information on him
