Was a ridiculous article. Joe was definately not dumb.. he had a bit of a suspect chin but a brilliant defense to somewhat makeup for it. These blatent attacks on fighters are just plain ****edup.

You can take or leave his opinions but if you focus on and read what newspapers accounts of the day were saying about some of Joe's performances there is always something to be learned. Many of Joe's title fight opposition left alot to be desired and Joe did struggle with some of these guys and was not always the one-punch invincible wrecking ball we hear time and time again on these threads. Posters are very quick to point out bad performances by Tyson, Frazier, Foreman, Holyfield, Holmes and Ali for example because their fights are shown on ESPN classic time and time again.

I question how many posters who are so quick to deem Louis a near flawless demi-god have really taken the time to watch, re-watch, study and evaluate Joe's performances objectively as well as his opponents. Before being so quick to say Louis would destroy so and so like we so often hear on these threads, take the time, and do your own research before re-gurgitating the views of others.

You are a perfect example of a young and ignorant poster who doesn't take the time to learn of the very topic he staunchly debates. A few threads ago you didn't know who Corrie Sanders was and needed to see pictures to be reminded of who Julio Ceasar Chavez and Wilfredo Gomez were. well see i try to watch louis fights but its so damn brutal watching him crush some of those guys! granted louis wasnt a perfect fighter but who is? for someone that fought the number of guys he fought the big names of his day he surely would have lost more then he did what like 4 loses out of all that? thats a great record ! he beat the whos who and not only did he beat them but he made them wish they were never born

Thank you for proving my point about ignorance. A boxing writer who gives Louis a less than glowing review of his performance is suddenly a biased racist writer? Do you know who these writers are? Does any white sports writer who gives a black athlete a critical analysis of his performance suddenly become a racist?

I have several original newspaper accounts of Jack Johnson fights and there was no racial bias in describing the actual actions in the ring and this goes back to 1908, at a time Johnson was absolutely hated by white America. Johnson was given full credit in print for his victories over Burns, Jeffries etc...

I fail to see how the writers covering Joe Louis in the 30's and 40's when Louis was the people's champion would choose to fabricate and discredit his in-the-ring performances based upon his race.
