Boxers: are more technical....Floyd Mayweather, Joe Calzaghe, Winky Wright, Oscar De La Hoya are pretty good examples, to say the least. All are technicians and artists of their craft.

Sluggers: rely on sheer unadulterated power and are not Usually as technically skilled as the boxers......Sam Peter, Lamon Brewster, Ricardo Mayorga, Jeff Lacy, Manny Pacquaio have all got much pop in their shots.

Swarmers: rely on activity and wearing down their opponents throus sheer aggression...and that's not to say they are not technically skilled at what they do; they are. The two best, IMO are Jose Luis Castillo & Ricky Hatton.

There are alos counter-punchers, boxer-punchers, and several other variations the way I define styles; but I'm not the authority, by any means. I hope these examples help you out a little.

        Thanks mate.

Inciedentally, PriMe, take some time to look up the classics.

Sugar Ray Robinson was about as good as there's ever been from a technical perspective...and he had some power too, to understate.

Swarmer....either Jack Dempsey, Rocky Marciano, or Joe Frazier for heavies...Henry Armstrong for p4p.

Slugger....Earnie Shavers, George Foreman ('70's version), or Max Baer. Lighter weight power punchers....Julian Jackson, Geral McClellan, Thomas Hearns (great boxer too), Pipino Cuevas, Wilfredo Gomez

There are really too many to mention; but they're out there if you look for them.

Those would be the big three, no doubt. It still amazes me that Armstrong was able to win the world title at featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight and hold them at the same time....damn near won the middleweight crown as well, fight ended in a draw, I believe. And, that was at a time when ther were no paper belts. Armstrong was amazing.
