I don't see it as an excuse, you do. I don't concern myself with excuses too much. I'm not even talking about this fight in a excuse type way I'm just saying what I saw & what I feel based on the context we can look at the fight with now.

Maybe you're right & if they fought 10 times Vitali ends up f#cked up every time. I just don't think so.

The only way it doesn't happen is if Lewis does not punch him in the face very hard repeatedly.

And how would that happen? The oldest, least in shape worst version of Lewis did all of that to the best version of Klitschko.

Emanuel Steward who was a genius in Boxing, knew that Vitali can't take this kind of attack for long and that's why he made that gameplan for Lewis.

Lewis was gassing out thats why Manny kept pressing him to get in Vitali face. It was a fight of attrition and it was obvious after a few rounds that top notch conditioning was not brought to the ring by either man.
The A class fighter won over B- guy, not a surprise. To hell with the age factor it was the experience factor and willingness that won the fight, nothing else.

It's about time we address this myth that Vitali was easily dominating and quit because of some career-ending injury because that is NOT what happened:

            Byrd objectively won 3-4 rounds
Byrd landed 124 punches in comparison to Vitali's 132, 8 punch difference!!!
Vitali was fading and Byrd was getting his second wind
Vitali admitted to Merchant that the injury was not the reason he quit
He admitted he had trouble dealing with a southpaw
He said that he thought he couldn't win enough points
He never stopped using either hand
He was back in the ring the same year!!!

Byrd outboxed Vitali, frustrated him and made him quit. Unlike Elroy's nonsenical gibberish, the above points are ALL FACTS!!!! aside from the first one, which is a reasonable and objective conclusion based on empirical evidence!!!

            Stopped by a SUPER-MIDDLEWEIGHT.

And they have the audacity to criticize the "cruiserweights" of old.
vitali could have coasted to a points win over byrd if it was as easy as some here claim. vitali didn't quit because of his injury, byrd frustrated him mentally and hit him hard to the body. the smaller, quicker, more skilled man was the winner

lewis was lucky he busted open vitali's face, he was breathing so hard i don't think he was in shape to go the full 12 if he had to, despite being the more skilled and experienced fighter.

These Klit brothers were KO'd by so many guys I don't know If I can even name them all. Byrd, Brewster, Sanders, Lewis...who did I miss? Purity.

No real athleticism from Vitali. He stands there with his gunboats planted, knees bent, missing multiple punches while never having the thought of moving his feet. More oaf than athlete, it is no wonder he KO'd himself against Byrd. He might as well have been Tyson Fury throwing punches at himself.
