Yea that's what I mean. I don't think Curry will get in anytime soon but I do think he will get his nod years down the road on some historic entrance(Old timers ballot).Comment

I think both guys were very good, Martinez was better imo. He was so much fun to watch, his unorthodox style made it much more engaging and he never lost to sub par opposition imo. Curry did and we have to take that into account.
Also, Martinez made a career of beating bigger, taller men.Comment

Fat Dan is off his rocker here. Curry was a better fighter in his prime and beat better fighters. Curry didn't live up to expectations, and Martinez achieved a ****load for someone who started boxing so late, but that shouldn't matter. Part of the reason Curry didn't live to expectations was because he was so damn good in the first place that he helped create these expectations. So give Curry credit for that. If people were seriously considering him, a welterweight, to be a threat for one of the greatest middleweights ever in Hagler, then obviously Curry was doing really good for that to even be considered.Comment

I'm sure some of it has to do with the "mystique" around Martinez. There are a lot of questions surrounding his career which leads people to assume he's better than he is. What if he started earlier? What if he was a career junior middleweight? What if, what if, what if...
There's no denying he had the physical traits to make things happen but if we go off his resume and the career that DID happen he's a borderline HOFer for being an overachiever. He's a modern favorite of mine, so I'm also bias but can definitely see why others wouldn't include him.Comment
