As most boxing fans know, Benny Lynch was the best boxer to come out of Scotland.
Benny fought and trained hard to escape the poverty and hardship of 1920's Glasgow and went on to win the world title in 1935. On his return to the City he was greeted by an estimated 100,000 Glaswegians who lined the streets to congratulate him.
So often, stories of Benny surround his untimely death rather than what he achieved in the ring. With this in mind, we have started the Remember Benny Lynch Campaign which aims to raise funds for a statue of Benny in Glasgow. The campaign has full support of Benny's family (his son and granddaughter who live in Canada) and the patron of the campaign is the actor Robert Carlyle, a lifelong Benny fan.
