  • Marvin "The Toy Bull" Hagler: A Sinister Reputation

Found it a little funny that this was once his nickname. Anyway, an article from SI in 1978 when Hagler was still a contender.

It was deliberate foul headbutts which cut Finnegans face. Finnegan was by all accounts beating hagler and even agreed to return to rematch him, only to be "butted" out of that fight. Finnegan warned his old rival Alan Minter about Hagler's illegal headbutting tactics, when Marvin arrived in London to face Minter for the 160lb title.. Hagler won very easily but was pelted with beer bottles by fans, who felt he had used his head illegally. Marvin won fair & square without any foul tactics, that's not to say he never used them in the Finnegan bouts.
