  • where does george chuvalo rank?

    im 2/3 into his book.
seems like a massive body puncher that really hurt people win or lose.
just how good was he? im watching chuvalo vs jerry quarry right now, he definitely looks very tough..
seems like luck is always against him ):

I don't think you can rate him an atg or anything super special...

The guy was tough and had good power..

He is probably one of the greatest top 50-100 heavyweight contenders

The king of all assets for a boxer is beard. Chuvalo is the king of beard. He will be seated at 2nd or 3rd table in the Hall of the Greats, ahead of many generic champions.

Chuvalo was one of the most predictable fighters ever. He always beat who he was supposed to beat, and always lost when he stepped up to the next level. The one exception would be the Quarry KO, but that was kind of a fluke.

He sure was a difficult stepping stone. You had to fight him period.

incredibly tough pressure fighter, watch his two bouts with Muhammad Ali and you will get a good idea were he ranks...Chuvalo would murder the likes of Hasim Rahman, Frank Bruno, John Ruiz, David Haye, Ruslan Chagaev, Oleg Maskaev, Shannon Briggs, Ibragamov and dozens of men who have fought and lost for the title.

I hate to say it but scott is actually right in this instance! The most common sense post thus far!Chuvalo being tough is highly overatted ,he never fought a real power puncher other than Foreman and the ref saved his life!Thats on toughness which he was but skillwise well he was the Canadian champion ,he never established himself against actual ranked fighters.

                Not sure!

Definitely not top 20 all-time, can't see him in the top 25 either, definitely would place in the top 50, but between 25 and 50 it's hard to say, as that group of fighters would have quite a few that would be extremely close together, but he is one that I would put up against Sam Langford at HW to start out to test Sam to see where he really belongs at HW.

I rank him in very Last Place.

If u put a Heavybag in the middle of the ring, I'm sure it could go 60 fights or so without going down.thats chyvalo, a punching bag with the ability to talk and write nuanced books. Cool talent, but he's not beating anybody in the top 50.
