The list was hastily made. I figure Napoles was a bit slow though. Everyone is approximately where they belong. Make one for me.

        1. Sugar Ray Robinson
        2. Henry Armstrong
        3. Ray Leonard
        4. Mickey Walker / Joe Walcott
        5. Kid Gavilan
        6. Emile Griffith
        7. Jose Napoles
        8. Jimmy McClarnin
        9. Barney Ross
        10. Carmen Basilio

Old list I found, as with most lists after 3 all the names are interchangeable, skill wise Napoles is in with the top 3.

Napoles is slow? Maybe you should watch more.

I know Henry made 20 or so defenses but have often wondered if his opposition was weak compared to some of the fighters on the two lists provided who fought each other or some more renowned fighter's.

I stand roughly by my list. Walcott is probably someone I forgot. It is tough to picture Walcott or Armstrong against Tommy Hearns. I could move Hearns higher.

Though I have done it precisely before, I may take yet another look at Napoles. I am quite sure he is not a contender in the speed category against the fastest welters. He was a great fighter and I do not imply otherwise, just not a speedster.

By the standards of the time he fought good opponents, there are certainly some stinkers in his welterweight run but that is true of pretty much every long title run. The biggest difficulty with ranking Armstrong for me is his size, he just wasn't really a welterweight. At least towards the end of his run his manager/trainer was plying him with beer to try and raise his weight, the good old days.

Oscar? Mayweather? I'll add Shane in his prime over them. Wheres Burley?
Wheres PeeWee? Duran was a Lightweight great not a welter. A win over Leonard doesn't "invite" him in. Not sure about Benitez either, Napoles needs to be higher.
I'll put Curry in there if you consider his skills & talents without his mentall attitude towards the sport. It's hard to seperate mental make ups but when evaluating physical skills he's up there. Curry at his best beats up Mayweather
                    and handles Benitez.
The bottom line is being TBE ATG and p4p king thats only one man! Sugarman.
