  • Upcoming Documentary Film about L.A.'s Olympic Auditorium

    Hi everyone,

We at GenPop would like to announce a documentary film that we're producing about L.A.’s late great Olympic Auditorium. We have spent hundreds of hours researching and developing this cultural history project, interviewing people like Gene LeBell, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Don Chargin, **** Enberg and Ed Ruscha, with many more to come.

We just launched a Kickstarter Campaign and we're trying to spread the word and raise money, to finish our film that highlights one of boxing's historic venues. Every dollar helps, so get in our corner!

For those of you who know of or remember the Olympic, the documentary will bring back to life the great characters of boxing and wrestling, including Freddie Blassie, Andre the Giant, Jimmy Lennon, Muhammad Ali, Hulk Hogan, Mando Ramos, Art Aragon and others—the Olympic had a reputation for great fights and wild spectacle in the ring, on stage, and in the crowd.

Get in our corner and back our campaign on Kickstarter at http://bit.ly/olympicaud

The first fight I ever attended was at the Olympic, and was there countless times to see both live and closed circuit fight. I used to go see wrestling and Roller Derby there too.

      Good luck with your project.

Project Update--30 Hours Left in Our Campaign

        Hi everyone,

We're in the final hours of our Kickstarter Campaign and we need your support! We have 30 hours left and need to raise about $12,000 more for our documentary film. In case you're unfamiliar with Kickstarter, it's all-or-nothing, meaning if we don't hit our goal, we don't receive a dime!

The Olympic Auditorium was a mecca in Los Angeles and has served as the venue for many iconic boxing, wrestling, and roller derby matches, as well as great music acts and Oscar-winning films. It now stands as a Korean Church and we're trying to preserve the legacy of the venue, and share stories of its infamous characters to a new generation in our film. We're producing this as a love letter to the fans!

Any support you can pledge, even if small, can help us with our goal. We've received press in a variety of publications and have great events planned after the campaign is over.
