He is probably the only fighter in history that could claim that he beat Foreman, Ali, Norton, Shavers, and Lyle! It's a shame he got robbed so often, the judges weren't a fan of his negative style.
Here's a good opportunity to post my highlight video of Jimmy Young:
Wow. then you really don't know much about boxing. Foreman got comprehensively outboxed. It was clear as day that Foreman lost that fight.
You are making out Jimmy Young was a "World Beater" when the reality is he was a boring fighter who was very limited. who lost fights to other limited heavyweights his whole career...

Of course Foreman was not robbed against Young. Foreman got outboxed, knocked down and slapped goofy by a guy who couldn't even punch. The only thing limited about Jimmy was his punch--he couldn't punch his way out of a cobweb.
It takes quite a boxer of Young's build to go fifteen rounds with a youthful Foreman bent on requiting himself, period. Who else could do it at the time?
Young's bending outside the ropes is something, yes, that he might or might not have been penalized for, and he was not. Ali himself was the worst grabber of an opponet's neck that ever boxed in my memory. He should have been penalized for that numerous times, but never was, or maybe once.
Like Chris Byrd, Young's opponent's always looked like giants next to him. His style was not pleasing, but it worked for him and I believed at the time he should have been awarded the decision against Ali who looked really bad. I would have to perform the unpleasant task of reviewing an unexciting fight.
Jimmy Young made it close with the giants, one can say at the least. The other great pure boxers listed were fighting guys their own size. That is what people overlook in comparing him with those boxers.

Young lost more than half his pro fights, with most of his defeats being to journeymen.Last edited by Scott9945; 04-28-2015, 09:36 AM.

Most just cant except that Young was better than Foreman because then it diminishes the value of ALI and totally disproves what era was really Foreman at his best. The only agenda that seems to be the most ongoing on the history forum is protect ALI at all costs by making fighters like Norton and Young less relevant .Ali ,Norton, and Young were the top 3 in the 70's era with boxing skill, the only thing Norton lacked was chin which is a death sentence with Foreman .Last edited by juggernaut666; 04-28-2015, 11:30 AM.

This is a disgraceful tactic that should be met with disqualification, not rewarded with the myth that you actually won because you found an illegal way to make your opponent's offense ineffective and got away with it. Thankfully Ali wasn't robbed otherwise it would have been a tragic moment in the sport.
My point was that if you score it round by round you will find it very hard to score it to Ali. I get how you don't like the negative tactics by Young, but Young absolutely won the fight on clean punching and defense. He won it on rounds.Last edited by young_robbed; 04-28-2015, 12:31 PM.

Young was no world beater but he was a very good HW and a great technician who got by on skills and smarts alone.
By the way, a lot of people think he beat Norton and Ali. I do too.
