Canzoneri was only stopped once in 175 fights (including newspaper decisions) and that was his final fight. Considering he fought with his hands at his waist and with his head often up high that is quite astonishing, and indeed surprising.
Here is one explanation for this beyond that Canzoneri was just so damn good in his time (which he obviously was): most of his opponents seemed to have had little power. He fought 43 'world level' opponents, including borderline cases, by my calculation but only 2 had a greater than 50% knockouts as a percentage of their wins. By contrast Chavez fought 32 opponents and 23 had greater than 50% knockouts as a percentage of their wins.
