  • How come Larry Donald didn't get a title shot

Why is Don King unfair to him, 10 years ago on this month, Donald beat Evander Holyfield, the best match-up Don would put up the following year is Chris Byrd vs James Toney and John Ruiz vs Larry Donald.

Byrd spent the whole of 2005 without fighting, taking a lackluster win over touch of sleep Williamson in the second half of the year, while we all know Toney will schooled Ruiz like Roy Jones did, it's strange Toney used to fight for the IBF belt from 160, 168 and 190lbs, yet he was paired against the WBA champion, and Donald beat the man who fought John Ruiz three times for the WBA strap and can't even get one title shot and was forced to face Ray Austin instead.

Interestingly, both Vitali Klitschko (against Lewis) and Valuev had Donald as their significant win before they had their first shot at the limelight.

I can't remember specifically why Donald didn't get a title shot. But I do remember that there was no real demand for it. One thing I do remember is that Donald was totally robbed against Valuev.

I exchanged a few emails with Larry way back. Classy guy who is deeply religious.

I like Donald too, and one of my predictions back in the 1990s when he was a contender was him beating a legend came true, I thought it's gonna be Tyson, but it was Holyfield.

If he had fought Ruiz, he might win and defend the belt nonetheless against Valuev. I remember James Toney disrespects Donald but Toney will never fight that russian giant.

He did get to the point where he fought in a title eliminator. He lost that to Johnson however and Kirk Johnson got the shot.

The thing I most remember him for is the two piece that Rid**** Bowe landed on him during the press conference for their fight.

That was one of the lowest class moves I've ever seen in boxing. Bowe has a certain charm about him, but to me he is total ****.
