  • light heavyweights moving to heavyweight

Is the age gone where light heavyweights move up to heavyweight to challenge for a title? I mean we had Spinks, Moorer, Jones, toney, but is there anyone on the horizon that might move up in the future? I mean there was Tomasz Adamek but cant think of anyone else. Also what about cruiserweights?

Cruisers are more likely to move up. It really depends on their height, frame and general laziness. A lot of the heavys today should really be at cruiser or even light heavy. It's a shame because guys like Archie Moore could still be effective at that weight. The cruiser weight wasn't really around that much when those fighters were around, it wasn't as competitive as it is today. Toney arguably had a heavyweight/cruiser weight frame and really struggled to get any lower.

I think you may be right in saying that light heavies won't be moving up to heavy anymore. It's more likely cruisers nowadays. Nathan cleverly moved up to cruiser and could still put on weight to go to heavyweight lol .

Before Spinks there was a long history of failed attempts. But with Moorer, he moved up against a former cruiserweight champion and Ruiz himself fought as a cruiserweight earlier in his career.

There will probably be alot more, as fighters realize that the challenge is worth going for the bigger paydays that heavyweight receive.

I think if we have a smaller champ in the future someone like haye or adamek, than yeah I can see a light heavy going up to heavy, but with a giant like klitchko on top, and probably Anthony Joshua as the heir, I don't think we will see many light heavys go after the heavy champ in the near future..
I'm sure we will see plenty of blown up light heavys in the heavyweight division in the future, but most of them will just be looking for some paydays ie tarver. But it will be rare for a light heavy to make a major run at the title
