Do you mean his win/loss record? He did gain alot of weight between fights and had to kill himself to get back down, same as toney did and over time it diminishes you.

i think he means exactly what he said.

from going to the top of the world, IE beating Leonard, to the bottom when Hearns completely destroyed him... and then back up when he beat Barkley and Moore. toney is as good a shout as any.

Saoul Mamby? High end journeymen, losing a lot of fights then becomes a world champion at 32 and then starts to lose again and is back to being a high end journeyman and continues fighting into his 50s.

Fritzie Zivic? I'm not sure you can get a more puzzling record than his. Or perhaps even Izzy Jannazzo. In fact there are quite a few fighters from the 30s and 40s with wildly divergent performances.

Great examples but I am a little puzzled by Ray Leonard he was dominate until coming to the last 2 fights of his carreer. unless you count his performance against keven howard as a low.

I will go alittle further into my reasoning on my example of leonard

1 was a great amateur star

2 decided not to turn pro

3 needed money, baby on the way, turned pro

4 boxing darling, huge draw, world champ at welter

5 loses to Duran in a slugfest

6 beats Duran one sided and makes him quit

7 gets the crap boxed out of him by hearns thru 12 rds, corner tells him he is blowing it

8 makes dramatic comeback over the hearns in the 13th n 14th rds

9 fractured eye socket from hearns causes floaters

10 cancels fight with Pryor and forced into early retirement

                11. Gets hype back when everyone is convinced he is gonna comeback and fight hagler

12 holds a presser just to announce no fight with hagler, he is retired

13 does make a comeback and struggles with Kevin Howard

14 retires again and gets coked out

15 after a few years, announces fight with hagler- Ray is a huge underdog

16.ray does the unthinkable and beats hagler

17 hagler retires, leaving no big money rematch in 88

18 gets Donny ladonde for 2 belts at once, nice achievement

                19 lands hearns rematch

20 gets dropped by hearns and many considered Ray got a gift draw

21 Ray dominates Duran in the rubber match

                22 beaten up by Norris

23 several years later announces comeback to much fanfare

                24 gets demolished by camacho

25 retires for good, and is now seen as a living legend ATG

thanks for expanding just a couple of points Ray was already a dad as an amateur and I believe it was his father's medical bills that were his main motivation for turning pro.
