  • If these fights happen instead: Foreman-Nielsen, Holmes-Briggs

George Foreman and Larry Holmes' last defeats came against Shannon Briggs and Brian Nielsen. It happen in 1997 and they were both robbed of a decision.

If their opponents switch places, Big George and Larry's last loss will turn into a win. I felt Foreman had a better shot of beating Nielsen and as much as 48-years old Larry schools the loud-mouthed Shannon Briggs (at present against Wlad) even more than Big George did.

Foreman's advantage against Nielsen compared to Holmes was his punching power, I can't even understand how Super Brian went undefeated for 49 fights with some of his victims against faded former champions.

Holmes will probably do to Briggs what he did to Mercer.

To be honest, most viewers felt that Holmes and Foreman were very unlucky to have not been given the decisions in those fights. I'm sure that if the opponents were switched either fight could be won by the veterans.

I do think that Holmes would have a tougher time with Briggs than Foreman with Nielsen though. In 1997 Holmes wasn't quite as good as he was in what? 1991/92 when he met Mercer. Age, plus the Holyfield & McCall fights will have taken their toll. Still winnable, but Briggs did show that he could be half useful against Lewis, and there was some nice boxing from him in the Foreman fight.

I'll have to agree with this! The Holmes who met Nielsen was really on his last legs, and had almost nothing left (still enough to beat the Dane, I thought!). I can't imagine that Holmes beating the young Briggs of the Foreman fight (even though Briggs didn't deserve the decision in that one).
