At what point from 74-76 was Ali supposed to have been scared of Foreman? Was it the slob that turned up to fight 5 bums in one night and got his arse booed out the arena? Or the guy who took even longer to dispatch a faded and badly beaten frazier ?

This myth that Ali didn't want the rematch is ridiculous. Foreman had 1 fight of note across 2 years whereas Ali was fighting 3-4 times a year post Zaire.

Ali would've laughed all the way to the bank for a rematch against a a fat, jaded, mentally deteriorated foreman of the mid 70s.

Why didn't he fight him again then? Ali fought many of his opponents multiple times, why not Foreman?

Foreman didn't fight from 74-76 until he fought lyle, someone Ali not only beat but had an easier time with. In between the Ali and lyle fights, the only other engagement foreman had was fighting 5 bums in one night.

It was a joke, a farce where he came in looking soft, wrestled with one guy, fell over and got booed by fans and verbally assaulted by Ali. Foreman left the ring in a haze of disgrace.

By the time foremans come back gained some traction, after beating frazier again it was 77 and he would lose to a contender and retire. An Ali fight was talked about but never realistic especially considering foreman first thought he was under some sort of African spell and then thought he was a born again black jesus or something.
