Maybe not exactly kids - but yes, very young men. Neither had turned 18 yet, when they met!

Wow so he is in the HOF! That's a travesty considering guys like Willie Joyce didn't even make it in! The HOF really shouldn't hold much weight when judging a resume.

Jackie Fields had some good wins over such standouts as Vince Dundee 4 times, Gorilla Jones, Tommy Freeman, Lou Brouillard, Young Jack Thompson twice, Young Peter Jackson, plus a Newspaper decision over Sammy Mandell. He was also the youngest ever Olympic Gold Medalist in boxing.

Right now Willie Joyce isn't even on the ballot, But he does have some good wins, including Ike Williams 3 times, Lew Jenkins twice, Leo Rodak, Jackie Wilson, Chalky Wright, Bobby Ruffin, Henry Armstrong twice (1943 & 1944), he also lost to Armstrong twice. Joyce did lose 3 times to a very good friend of mind by the name of Tippy Larkin.

Oddly enough you mention Larkin, who is just as worthy as Fields. The fact Larkin and Joyce aren't in the hall is ludicrous. They were big names with big wins.

The thing is that Larkin is in the Modern Class and most of the voters are from the BWAA and there a lot of young writers in that group. I happen to run the BWAA web site. I also am a voting member But not as a BWAA member, I am on their panel as a Boxing Historian.
