Have any of you rubes looked at Hopkins resume? to play devil's advocate for a moment.....it aint too bad! I mean a case could perhaps be made for Hopkins somewhere near the top 20....that I could see

besides my old friend wenierschmaltz has a great list:

    1) Vlad Kltischko
    2) his brother
    nobody else comes close!!!!

    11) Andrew Golata
got Bhop in my top 20.

Hearns and Benitez are not top 10 welterweights. Lewis and Britton most likely are.

And Leonard moved up to do it.

Felix25;..... don't you know that EVERYONE on a boxing forum is a boxing "know it all"? hahaha their are people who never have boxed oranges let alone men that don't know what it takes to even go to a gym!!!!
Everyone is entitled to their's but when your speaking out of your azz and folks come back willing to kick it don't be surprised right?
Your post (and mine) are the only subjective shots on this thread!

............to the Hearns non believer. Tommy is a top ten 47 pounder because his power gives a shot at anyone. He also is capable of out boxing Ray Leonard (the boxer) all night long. Tommy's short coming is his will to "fight" and it's hard to fault a man willing to try to stop others.
I never was a big Tommy supporter but his willingness would be considered rare today and only Robinson could stop others like Tommy could!
        Ray.

He is a top 147 lb'er but not a top 10 one. Just like Delahoya, Mosley Whitaker ae top 147 lb'ers but not top 10.

I know, it's splitting hairs but in these instances you have to get down to the details.

Benitez may be borderline but you genuinely believe that Hearns is not a top 10 welterweight?

LOL give me a break and take off your "black and white is better" glasses. It doesn't fly with me and it just makes you sound ******.

Rocco missed a trick. He should have destroyed all of his fight footage on retirement so that he'd be venerated like "The Pittsburgh Windmill".

Benitez isn't borderline at all. His claim to fame was being a young champ and it wasn't at welter.

Hearns' best w at 147 is Cuevas Let's be real here

Leonard moving up and beating Britton and Lewis is just plain better, and let's not forget his lightweight reign making him a top 1-2 lightweight of all time even before that.

I have a problem with any list that has Ali above Louis. If Louis is the best HW of all time, how can Ali be better? He can't. When I rank greatest of all time it's off of skills. Otherwise ODLH is most likely the GOAT because of all the money he made off of celebrity rather than boxing.

DeLaHoya and Mosely are not in Tommy's category the difference is "power"!
I like Shane a lot and Pete is a true talent but those fellows just like lil' Floyd are very small welters who have no power compared to Hearns.
Oscar and Shane and lil' Floyd to me are junior weight class competitors because historically they don't match up to the greatest welters.
Size does make a difference under 175lbs, these fellows are all under 5' 8" (except Oscar) there is a big difference between 5' 7" and 6' especially in the reach department then add in the power punching differences.
If you go back to the great welters without size you run into guys that were animals who would walk through these guys today. No one today is hungry like those old timers. Back then if you couldn't pack a hall you were done!!!!
It made no difference if you were a "defensive genius" if you didn't fill the seats and sell the concessions no promoter would use you.
Theres a huge difference in attitudes in the old fighters and the modern day ones. Watch a live prelim fight today that's not on TV and chances are they'll som3e kid on that show fighting to survive. You'll see the people supporting him like crazy regardless of skill level. Now if he has skills then he'll have a shot at moving up but then again the streets are there to win too.
Take a look at a man like Carmen Bassillo he's lil Floyd's size. Floyd has skills and over all talent above Carmen no doubt. Theres no way in hell that Floyd could beat Bassillo, because he can't hurt him, trust me he can't!!!
When you fight Robinson two years in a row and those encounters are "fight of the year" twice your special. When you can out box Billy Graham and Ike Williams and Kid Gavilan lil Floyd is in deep ****!
Tommy hearns has a chance....................a punchers chance!
Theres been so few real punchers in boxing over the past 25 years that boxing fans just don't realize how exciting and how the tides can turn quickly when a true power guy is in the ring. Tyson was the last guy but his power was also predicated on speed so he lost that as the fight moves on.
Watch Moorer fall down off that easy looking right hand that Big George threw!
Shavers would hit guys with what loked like glancing blows but they dropped like they were shot! Take a look at the great Duran when Tommy hit him! Even passed his prime not many thought Tommy was going to blast Roberto out!
Power punchers are far & few in between these days. Their always in the fight!
                    Ray.
