Muriello's best remembered for wobbling Joe Louis with a right hand during a one round slugfest for the heavyweight title, that saw him ko'd with a left hook

There have of course been several teenagers fighting for world titles in the lighter divisions, but for a 17-year-old to challenge (almost successfully!) for the lhw crown... quite amazing, really!

Agreed.. Although he was a little crude in technique.. Mauriello was always in very good shape, had a lot of heart, but as good his record suggests

Started young and finished young, had an extremely short prime, during which he lost to most of the quality fighters he faced.. But never a mug, by any means.
