Two other fights made headlines that night in Montreal:

the Gaetan Hart vs Cleveland Denny disaster

and John Tate suffering his second brutal KO loss in a row, this time against Trevor Berbick (Mike Weaver had stopped him less than three months before).

Apparently, Tate laid unconscious for 10 minutes after both defeats. I have never watched the Berbick vs Tate encounter and can’t find it on youtube. Anyone knows where to find a vid of it online?

          Thx

Edit: just watched it and found it pretty entertaining. Considering Berbick's record list at the time, I guess it was understandable to believe he would be a pushover. Poor Big John, his life went all downhill from there.

Leonards best fight by far..................he lost!! Roberto forced the fight hurt Leonard a few times and Leonard has stated many times that he lost!
Loosing can be a teaching and modivation tool for a smart fighter only fans get defensive. He lost he learned and moved on, they both made alot of money but that was their best fights to me. Both looked in great shape and fought hard, Leonard got hurt in the second round and came back fighting very well. We don't see any welterweight action like that anymore from the current champions. The lil Rockys and Bam Bams give better accounts of themselves than the champions do. Funny hoew the more talented fighters these days just do enough to win, sort of a "rip off" when you consider the prices for their ppv's. To bad, too many champs and its a watered down group anyways. Cheers to Leonard vs Duran 1, great effort by both. Ray.
