I can't see Patterson beating Wlad at all.

On the other hand, IMO Liston defeats Wladimir.

Yes but wlad is not as good as a prime frazier, and ali lost once to norton, but yes its debatable,, i do think wlad would probably beat norton..

Wlad's style does that to some degree, not as effectively as Norton though. Ali would find something that worked eventually, he never did that with Norton. The outcome in doubt with 3 rounds to go or so and then Ali pulls away.

Wlad's best chance is if Ali shows up unprepared like he did in Norton 1. Or if he fights Ali right after he came back in 1970. Ali hadn't quite figured out how to adapt to his diminished skills at that point, I thought he looked terrible against Bonavena.
I think ali had problem getting hyped up for fights like bonavena and norton 1,,,, and even spinks 1....

If not, someone like Ken Norton.
I agree with norton,, but honestly i think jack johnson could beat wlad,,, johnson wasnt as big, but he had a big enough punch, had that awkward defense, and i think he would beat wlad, 7 or 8 times out of ten

I don't believe that Frazier was as good as Wlad, but that's not really the point. Stylistically, he's the opposite of Frazier and I think that would trouble Ali.

Re: Johnson I don't think any of us can really say given the film quality. The rules and glove size would play large roles though. I don't think Wlad would respond well at all to having Johnson swarming on top of him after a knockdown.

I just think frazier would get inside, and create havok vs wlad,, wlad doesnt like pressure and prefers to fight at a more measured pace,,, but truthfully wlad could do the same thing that foreman did to frazier......

and true about johnson,, its very hard to compare him to modern guys just because the film quality is bad, and also the rules of the game have changed so much

Probably Mike Tyson will be ideal candidate for this. He was defeated by pale copy of Klitschko (Douglas) and Wlad on other hand recently defeated burlesque "Tyson" - Povetkin. Hovewer as much as he is a joke of a Tyson, Alexander have incomparably stronger spirit then Mike. So if Mike will faile to deliver lucky punch in early rounds (and he will faile because of Klitschko's perfect jab-and-clinch tactics) he will be demoralised and destroyed by Wlad in the end of the boot. Probably take revenge by earbiting

Absolutely. When you can stand over a guy you knocked down, it really is a different sport. And if you put gloves that size on Wladimir you're going to have either broken faces or broken hands.

Wlad Klitschko could probably beat any of the heavyweight greats on the right day but in terms of who he had a better than 0.5 probability of beating i'd say the best would be Frazier or perhaps Joe Louis. Both are fairly 50/50 for me but i'd probably give Wlad the edge on both. Neither would be able to take Wlad's shots although if either could get close enough they'd both be able to knock Wlad right out. Frazier would either get bowled out a la Foreman early on or manage to get in close and knock Wlad with a left hook, Louis's slow feet would make it hard for him to get close without eating jabs, and his chin would not withstand Klitschko's punches. Marciano would also be a sitting duck for Wlad.

From what can be gleaned from the poor quality film Jack Johnson's fights had striking similarities with the Klitschko- Povetkin fight with guys flying into Johnson and him tying them up. Jack Johnson's opposition seems to have been very very poor even by today's standards, thus his use of his gloves and arms to parry and grab unskilled fighters wading in with isolated punches, rather than combinations, was easy for him to deal with. Like Klitschko Johnson also had a big size advantage. I don't think Johnson would stand a chance against modern heavyweights of high quality.
