First try, best p4p the end of the calendar year, needs a lot of work done to it though, all the ones with more than one name are because I haven't narrowed down yet. Try and amend it Sugar Adam Ali or others?

How can there be two at the same time? I hate Draws!

Sugar Ray is the best all time fighter/boxer, theres no one better.

.....and yes you decide at the end of the year...then decade....I think its silly but so are the fans at times so there you go......Ray.

Read what I said on the top line Ray, I placed more than one because I haven't decided. By all means amend the list to eliminate all the multiple names.

Hasn't this whole "pound-for-pound" thing got a bit silly?

Robinson got the description as we know due to the universal acknowledgement of his abilities and from his performances at welterweight and middleweight.

That's probably where it should of stopped?

Duran started to receive the tag in the build-up to Duran-Leonard I and from that list, that does seem to be the starting point of the current trend.

The term now has come to become the equivalent of the Val Barker Trophy.

I fail to see why it is silly to try and think about who is the best in the sport at a given time.

Perhaps I am in the minority in finding it frivolous.

              Hypothetical contests I understand, this I don't.

Lets retrace the lineal P4P #1 history from present day and work backwards as far as we can,,,

I know p4p lists are very opinionated but usually when it comes who is #1 there is usually a clear cut favorite,,, So i will start it off

                floyd, 2010-present
                manny- 2008-2010
                floyd 2005-2008
                hopkins- 2004-05
                roy jones- 94-04
                pernell- 94-88
                chavez- 86-88 ?????????

Feel free to debate my selections or add your own, I by no means think i have it all figured out,,, I can only go back to about 88 with chavez, then it starts getting really tough, spinks, hearns, hagler, probably forgetting somebody, etc,,,, Was ALi #1 in the early 70s and 60s

Please discuss, lets see how far we can go back
Sweet pea was really pfp #1 for 6 years?????? I knew he was good but damn. I just check the ring rankings for fighter of the year ill see if I can put them up.

                    Thanks for the list...

I have a question for some of the older posters about monzon,, I watched his fights, but he was before my time, was he really that technically sound to be a p4p #1... not dis*****g his status as a top mw, but i always thought he was alittle crude, and not as sound of a fighter as say hagler or hopkins,,
                    what do you guys think
