Much as I've seen/own all of his early fights.....no southpaws jump to mind.

There may well have been one or two, but they'd have been of the tomato can variety. I can't think of anyone since Mike becoming champion either.

I do clearly remember that Mike himself had a habit of switching to southpaw early on in his career. I might have a look at some old fights this week and post back.

The only southpaw heavyweight champion I can think of is Michael Moorer and no i don't think he faced even 1 southpaw

Corrie Sanders won the WBO heavyweight title from Wladimir. Ruslan Chagaev and Sultan Ibragimov held versions of the title too.

true but I don't think they really count, Corrie is a really good one though I would have never thought of him

I agree that they (Chagaev and Ibragimov) were poor excuses for heavyweight champions, but they held partial titles just like Byrd did.

I don't remember Mike boxing a southpaw in a bout. I'm pretty sure I brought a southpaw (Kenny Schmidt) for him to work with in training but can't remember a southpaw heavy who was fighting at the same time on the east coast when Mike was being moved up! I knew most of the guys that Mike fought early in his career, one of the matchmakers involved with finding opponents was the matchmaker I worked for back then. Ray
