yea,,I was assuming moore sparred with him. maybe he was just giving his opinion like the rest of us. anyway,,on film louis seems to be the harder puncher but you sure have to take a fighers opinion who has felt both there punches over us keyboard warriors,,lol

I like most posts from Edgarg and Ray Corso. They know their ****. IronDanHamza as well. I respect these guys' opinion.

Some of the best posts I've read recently has been from Ray completely schooling that fool Tommo1 in the history section.

I think he used to work with Tyson or something back in the day. Anyone who's been in camp with Rooney, Cus and Atlas will know it inside out.

These people had forgotten more about boxing than most fans today have ever learned and they hailed Marciano, not because he was pretty to watch or some great technical genius. What they knew back then was that "style" meant very very little compared to the heart and guts and dedication of an old time professional and they knew that every fighter had HIS OWN STYLE and they knew that there was always a counter style to beat a fighter of any style or type. If all you needed to win was to be faster and smarter and technically and aesthetically pleasingly brilliant than Willie Pep would have cruised to very easy victories over Sandy Saddler, but guess what, Saddler punishes Pep. There are hundreds of factors in this game where every mistake you make you get belted for it. I will take the word of those that were there and who knew what they were on about, rather than from someone like Spam or his ilk.
...You should add this one to your quote list. Year ago when I was posting on this site, I had countless discussions with younger posters and older posters concerning the technique that has been lost to a large degree by modern fighters.....especially heavyweights. Chop blocks and various pivots executed by Sam Langford haven't been seen since his day, nor has the defense of a Jack Johnson, though I'll admit I'm not sure if his "wax-on/wax-off" technique of blocking shots would work against guys with combination punching and faster hands.

Either way you look at it, those who were there, who lived it, breathed it, slept it, and woke up in the middle of it are going to be far more knowledgeable about what we see than even our own uneducated eyes.

            Great post.

As far as I have read Marciano had a lot of critics back when he was fighting. I think many only very begrudgingly came to respect him.

The weight classes after Middle were 175 Limit for LtHvys thats the END of Limitations!!!

Tommo your insulting some great competitors like Ezzaed Charles and Walcott by calling these great fighters and men bums. Your a disrespectfull fool!
You always talk about size well Tyson at 5'9" would give away some height to Rock at 5'11" -6' if you think Rocky is less a puncher thats fine by me but you should read up on what fighters, managers, matchmakers, promotors thought of his power! Another words listen and learn from people who actually know these things instead of your assessments that are based on......Nothing! You don't know ****! Hard hitters and heavy handed fighters have NOTHING to do with how much someone weighs get that through your shallow head, moron!!...........lunch is ready, go read and learn something about Sandy Sadler or Ike Williams and report back in a week! Ray
                Amen!!!!

I shall post up anything I feel is a 5 star post, please feel free to add any you think were special.
Tyson isn't 5'9 and Marciano wasn't 6'0. That's an issue. Add to it that Tyson was much bigger physically. Let's stop pretending here.

I stood next to both men! No one on this forum has!!! J. Scully (member here) knows Mike and Scully at about 5'10 1/2--5'11" is taller than Tyson.
I know Scully since he was a kid with Nelson/Anderson Gym in Hartford Ct.

If someone else has stood next to Mike speak the people who are voicing their opinions without actually standing next to him are wrong! Ray

standing next to Marciano & Tyson I felt that Marciano had more size and he also had an ora about him that Mike had too but Marciano's was different, more of a quiet but menacing feel. Mike was more of a dangerous but insecure fibe. That I found out was very true as he grew older! Ray

Its nice to see that you're getting some respect on the forum now Ray. You were given all sorts of grief when you joined; but its good to see that folks are now starting to appreciate your experiences and the life you've had in boxing.

I've never met Tyson personally, but whatever his height......be it 5'9 or the often quoted 5'11.5 he did seem to use his lack of height to an advantage well in his prime. Bottom line; he was short for a heavyweight.

Theres plenty of film of Mike with Teddy at amatuer shows, Teddy is 5'9' or just under 5'10" and Mike is shorter. Now from those years to when he's 21 he has an inch of height added but Mike is very short for a Heavy.
I'm tired of stating truths as opposed to opinions, why people here have trouble accepting facts is beyond me!! What benefits do I get from stating a mans height? Is there a bet? A pool? Honestly it just gets old.
