just my observation do you agree?
Was jack dempsey better against large men?

Back then, probably, although I assume that was due to the bigger guys' physical attributes throughout that era. Back in the day, all of the bigger guys weren't fleet-footed with fast hands like Dempsey. If he had've been around to fight a big guy that could move I highly doubt he would've had the same success as he did say vs. Willard, for example, or even Firpo, who had a couple of inches on him. -
Believe he certainly preferred them, and would more often than not,dig out a big guy to spar with..
Fred Fulton was another giant who got obliterated by Dempsey.Comment

Although my comment was made with a twinkle in my eyes, I don't really count the Dempsey who turned up for the Tunney fights as anything like his prime regardless of Tunney's lack of stature.
I've not seen the Meehan fight, but I'm very familiar with the Carpentier fight. Despite George's very pretty right cross, left, right combination in round two (I believe) the fight really was a one sided beat down from Dempsey.Comment

A young Dempsey who barnstormed in his early years took on the biggest strongest guys. Thats who fought the carney tuff guiy or wrestled the bear or tried to strike out the best batter! He knew that the body was there if he couldn't square up on a guys chin!!! He took a beating to the body by an old veteran (can't remember the name) and never forgot it!!!
Theres alot more fights in Dempseys career than the boxrec has listed I assure you of that!! Same with Dijonnette and Gans and all thoughs guys!
Dempsey was a "knock around" hobo who loved to travel and loved to be a wild child!!! When he did love to fight he was very good at it!! the Mauler!

I believe he busted up Galento (2ton) in training aswell.Comment

I've heard about the Gallento beating too. Sick of Tony's training habits and lack of discipline apparently even a well worn Dempsey gave him a good going over.
I'd have loved to have seen that, probably his finest performance since Firpo....Comment

I read the Gallento beating in ray arcel's BiographyComment
