    Joey LaMotta

if you have seen "Raging Bull", you know that joey lamotta was jake lamotta's older brother, wonderfully portrayed by joe pesci.

but joey was also a fighter, a pretty good one, too. 32-5-2 with 22 KOs, only one stoppage loss.

but the thing that catches my eye, is that his career was only 21 months long, but in those 21 months, he had 39 fights!

he usually had a fight a week. he once had two fights in two days! this guy was crazy active!

i wish more fighters were active like that.

I have the January 1947 issue of The Ring and I read about his stoppage loss. Joey was fighting Freddy Flores, guy who only won twice in the last 2 years and was kayoed several times. When the bout was stopped, Jake, who was in Joey's corner, started a riot when he raised his fists to hit the referee!
        Brotherly love right there...

I found out the stoppage was because of two bad cuts over both of joey's eyes. In the rematch Flores style once again gave LaMotta fits and lost the decision. From his record it seems Joey was a bigger puncher than Jake, but his competition doesn't seem too well known except Flores and Flores lost to everybody. Flores was probably Joey's stepping stone but got stopped instead.
