donald was a terrific fighter in his prime. he had great physical ability, excellent handspeed and one punch KO power in both hands. he had a vast amateur background and an excellent boxing brain. his skills were simply astonishing, very fundamentally sound, good defense, could throw every punch well and put crisp combinations together with perfect form.
he was undisputed WW champion and considered the #1 p4p fighter by some yet he was still one of boxings biggest underachievers. personal problems, managerial issues and a savage KO loss to atg mike mccallum cut his prime way short and he never lived up to his full potential.
at his best watching him fight was a thing of beauty.
i must admit i havent seen as much of his brother as i would like. enough to know he was a good fighter without being on his brothers level, though. he went the distance with a prime benitez twice in competetive fights but i remember him best getting destroyed by hearns, also in his prime. he never managed to win at the level his brother did but he too became world champion.
bruce was a good fighter. don was a very good fighter who should have been a great fighter.

I saw Bruce Curry fight many times. He was talented and maybe a harder puncher than his brother. The reason he didn't go farther was that he was a genuine lunatic. His first loss to Wilfredo Benitez was one of the most disputed of the 1970's.

That was a very good time at 140. Underrated era in my opinion. Cervantes, although a slightly older version by then, Curry, Benitez, Pryor, Mamby, Thompson, Brooks, Villa, Haley, Costello...and a million others. A lot of great fighters.
That whole era was great in fact.

Donald had tremendous skills, very good handspeed, very good power, though his chin was a bit suspect. He was lucky to fight Milton McCrory when he did.The manipulation of him by Ray Leonard was part of the reason he didn't achieve higher than he did.I haven't really seen as m uch of Bruce, but he was a good fighter who kayoed Willie Rodriguez, and arguably beat Wilfred Benitez the first time out, and had that war with Monroe Brooks. But he was a lunatic.
